M3: MENTORING MATHEMATICAL MINDS


Teacher Stacey Daly presents a four week series of hands-on activities designed for 2nd through 4th grade students. Kids will use math to make a model of a Yeti, figure out the best perimeter for a dog pen and how to calculate the area of a fried egg.

Thursdays, January 21 through February 11 at 4:15 in the Large Conference Room.

Borrow a Ukulele from HCH Library

Teach yourself or your kids how to play the ukulele!

Jumpin’ Jim Beloff of Flea Market Music has generously donated a Flea Ukulele to The Henry Carter Hull Library. The instrument may be borrowed for two weeks and includes an instructional DVD, songbook and carrying case.

A $25 refundable deposit is required to borrow the instrument.

Meet the author Jordan Sonnenblick!

Jordan Sonnenblick, author of Drums, Girls and Dangerous Pie—a 2010 Older Nutmeg Book Award nominee—will visit the Henry Carter Hull Library in Clinton on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at 3:45 pm.

Jordan will read an excerpt from After Ever After, the sequel to Drums… which will be published in February, 2010.

Copies of his books will be available for purchase and autographing.

Early Literacy Computer Stations Available at HCH Library

The HCH Library Children's Room is happy to offer two Early Literacy Learning Stations geared for children aged 2 - 10 years for you to use at the library.

45 programs are available for your toddler to 4th grader, including JumpStart Phonics, JumpStart Preschool, Sesame Street First Steps, The Cat in the Hat, Millie's Math House, SpongeBob SquarePants Typing and Krazy ArtRoom.
All software is top rated by Children’s Technology Review. Drop by today and check it out!
These computer Stations are available from generously donated funds by Mr. Richard J. Kirkby and Lenny & Joe's Fish Tale.

Pigeon Party! Comes to Clinton

Mo Willems’ pigeon is ready to party! The Henry Carter Hull Library will sponsor a live performance of Pigeon Party! a musical based on three of children’s book author/illustrator Willems’ books on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 3pm. BIG WOODEN HORSE theatre company developed the show, its mission is to present high quality theatre to younger audiences across the United Kingdom and to represent the best of British theatre craft abroad. The Clinton performance is the second stop on a tour of the United States.

The party is at the Gagnon Auditorium of The Morgan School, Rt. 81, Clinton at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are free and may be obtained by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope, indicating the number of tickets requested, to The Henry Carter Hull Library, 10 Killingworth Turnpike, Clinton, CT 06413. A limited number of tickets are available on a first come, first served basis. Tickets must be presented at the door.

Squeezing all the fun of the first three Pigeon books into one raucous production, this lively show for children 3 and up is full of fun, feathers, laughter and excitement. Original music and lots of audience participation will delight parents and children alike. Meet the friendly hot dog man, Pigeon’s new friend Ducky and the loveable Knuffle Bunny.

Can you stop the Pigeon from driving the bus? Will he share the hot dog? And after all that, it’s time for bed. The Bus Driver wants Pigeon to go to bed. All his friends want him to go to bed. But will the audience late him stay up late? Join in the fun on October 25, 2009 to find out.

Pigeon Party! is dedicated in loving memory, to Lynnabeth O. Mays, who was Children’s Librarian at H.C. Hull Library from 1975-1986.

Especially prepared for ages 2 1/2 and up. Storytime provides systematic early literacy activities that help to make children successful readers when they start school . And it’s so much fun! Some of the most talented people write and illustrate children’s books, enjoyed by kids and parents alike. We add finger plays, movement activities, storytelling and word games. Join us weekly, then scoop up a bag of picture books to use at home during the week. Reading aloud to your child is one of the most important activites you can do to nurture his or her development.

Ever wonder what to do if you come across an injured wild animal? Liz Gode from Fawnhaven of Clinton, is giving a presentation at the Henry Carter Hull Library on Monday, May 18, 2009 at 6:30 pm about her experiences with wildlife rescue. Over the years she has cared for injured and orphaned raccoons, squirrels, woodchucks, skunks, and foxes, and she now specializes in the care of white-tailed fawns.
